Bourg St Maurice – France
Posted on March 23, 2014
Shaun and I went skiing yesterday morning at Les Arcs, which was glorious. There was plenty of snow on the runs but it really needed a good dump of powder if you wanted to ski off Piste. The weather came in after lunch and the visibility was becoming very poor so we headed back down to Bourg St Maurice, on the funicular (train).
The weather yesterday afternoon was very heavy rain below 700m, but above this it was snowing heavy, more on that later.
Tom arrived in the early hours of this morning (1.30am -23 Mar). The boys got up early and went up the slopes. Visibility still looks poor from down here and it has started to snow too so I reckon it will be snowing heavily up on the slopes.
Shaun – What a day we’ve had, having had a few hours sleep we were up and on the first run by 9.30. There must’ve been a good 25-30 cm of powder that had fallen through the night. Unfortunately the snow was still falling, it was -11 and the visibility was poor to say the least. This didn’t dampen our spirits and our first run down was a black covered in deep powder, not bad seeing as it was Toms first time on the snowboard for two years. We had a very tiring but very enjoyable day. Toms Strava said we’d done 43 miles, 26000ft of elevation gain and we hit a max speed of 38mph. We got back to the camper with cakes on the table and tea on the go, thanks Dawny. Well its still snowing, so it looks like another powder day tomorrow. But maybe a little easier and more hot chocolate stops, as I’m aching all over.
